Inaugural Report Highlights Continued Improvements Regarding Corporate Citizenship and Long-Term Corporate Social Responsibility

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IHS Inc. (NYS: IHS) , the leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced the publication of its inaugural Corporate Sustainability Report. The report is available online and covers performance for the 2012 calendar year. The contents encompass our key non-financial performance metrics and goals, as well as providing an overview of our commitments for the future.

"Our sustainability culture is evolving and growing as rapidly as IHS itself," said IHS President and CEO Scott Key. "We are proud to publicly share the progress we have made on the social, environmental and economic aspects of our operations. We believe that our focus on sustainability helps us increase our competitiveness as a company, and also allows us to contribute to the betterment of the social and economic conditions of the communities where we operate."

The 2012 Sustainability Report describes the IHS initiatives in three focus areas: "Live Well," "Live Wise" and "Live Green." Among the report's highlights:

"Live Well"— In 2012, IHS introduced a global benefit under which all colleagues have a full paid day off to share their time in the community through volunteering. Colleagues also have opportunities to participate in healthy lifestyle programs such as the Prevention Plan, where they can learn and track healthy life choices and access information to improve their health and wellness.

"Live Wise"— IHS colleagues are working, volunteering and supporting communities around the world, sharing information and helping to advance education, career development and knowledge. For example, in July 2012 as part of Geoscience Day, elementary school students visited the IHS office in Houston, Texas, to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

"Live Green"— IHS continuously works to understand and address its environmental impacts and identify areas for improvement. In 2012, IHS streamlined print infrastructure by more than 80 percent, reduced energy use by 16 percent compared with 2011, and recorded a 29 percent overall reduction in waste.
