Ethan Allen Now Using Only CertiPUR-US®Certified Foams in Its Custom Upholstered Furniture and Mattresses

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Ethan Allen (NYSE: ETH) is proud to announce that it is now using only CertiPUR-US® certified foams across its entire line of mattresses and custom upholstery, which includes sofas, chairs, ottomans, and headboards. CertiPUR-US certified foams are low-VOC emission materials (for improved indoor air quality) that are made without formaldehyde, mercury, lead, heavy metals, PBDEs, ozone depleters, or prohibited phthalates.

"Ethan Allen clients are savvy shoppers who are just as concerned with what's inside their furniture and mattresses as they are with how it looks and feels," said Ethan Allen Chairman, President and CEO Farooq Kathwari. When shopping at Ethan Allen, clients will soon notice hangtags bearing the CertiPUR-US seal on products throughout the showroom floor, and on ethanallen.com, the CertiPUR-US seal will be displayed on the product pages. "The information on the hangtags will provide answers to some very important questions that consumers are asking these days," added Kathwari.

The CertiPUR-US seal means that all foams used in Ethan Allen custom upholstery and mattresses were rigorously tested and certified by an independent, accredited laboratory to meet specific criteria for physical performance, content, and emissions, as described in the CertiPUR-US Technical Guidelines.

Most foam producers in the U.S. participate in the CertiPUR-US program, and many mattress manufacturers use only CertiPUR-US certified foam in their mattress lines, but Ethan Allen is a true pioneer in requiring the use of CertiPUR-US certified foam in all of its custom upholstery. "We are constantly reevaluating our processes to ensure that we're using the best materials available in our products. It just doesn't make sense for us to limit the use of CertiPUR-US certified foam to our mattresses," stated Kathwari.

The use of CertiPUR-UScertified foams is one more way Ethan Allen shows its commitment to environmental protection. The company has been repeatedly recognized for its commitment to environmental stewardship; recent honors include: a 2013 Vermont Governor's Award, recognition as a Vermont Business Environmental Partner; an Environmental Excellence Award from the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA), an Environmental Merit Award by the New England office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); and an Environmental Stewardship Award from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). All of Ethan Allen's domestic manufacturing facilities have implemented the AHFA's Enhancing Furniture's Environmental Culture (EFEC) program, which requires the company to analyze and better understand the environmental impact of its processes, raw materials, and finished products.
