3 Tips for Making Comic Books Part of Your Investment Strategy

Recently, a man sold a copy of Action Comics No. 1 for $175,000 after finding it in the wall of a home he was rebuilding. Most of us won't be so lucky, so if you want to include comics in your investment strategy, the best way to increase your odds of success is to get to know a local comic-book shop owner. Find out what's selling at a premium and seek to invest in those types of titles early, says Fool contributor and longtime comics collector Tim Beyers in the following video.

Luck is also a big factor, so don't bet your retirement on the next big Batman comic, Tim says. Instead, use rare comics to enhance your investment strategy after you've built a sufficiently diversified stock or mutual fund portfolio.

After all, Tim says, you may have more success investing in Marvel parent Walt Disney -- with its forthcoming catalysts, two new Avengers films starring Robert Downey Jr. -- than you would cherry-picking comics other collectors might find valuable someday.
