Sonic Foundry Selected to Be Included in the Russell Microcap Index
MADISON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NAS: SOFO) , the trusted leader for video content management and webcasting solutions, today announced the company will be added to the Russell Microcap Index, effective at the close of the market on June 28, 2013.
"We are pleased to be added to the Russell Index. We expect that Sonic Foundry's inclusion will give us broader exposure to institutional investors," said Gary Weis, chief executive officer of Sonic Foundry.
The Russell Microcap Index measures the performance of the microcap segment of the U.S. equity market. Microcap stocks make up less than 3% of the U.S. equity market (by market cap) and consist of the smallest 1,000 securities in the small-cap Russell 2000® Index, plus the next smallest eligible securities by market cap.
Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. Approximately $4.1 trillion in assets are benchmarked to the Russell Indexes. Russell calculates more than 700,000 benchmarks daily covering approximately 98 percent of the investable market globally, more than 80 countries and 10,000 securities. These investment tools originated from Russell's multi-manager investment business in the early 1980s when the company saw the need for a more objective, market-driven set of benchmarks in order to evaluate outside investment managers.
