Sonoco Hikes More Prices

Updated

For the second time in as many weeks, Hartsville, S.C.-based Sonoco Products is announcing a price increase.

Last week, Sonoco slapped a $40-per-ton surcharge on "all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) products ... effective with shipments in the United States and Canada beginning July 8, 2013." Thursday, the company confirmed that it's also hiking prices "for all paperboard tubes and cores by 5 percent, effective with shipments in the United States and Canada beginning July 15, 2013."

As with last week's hike, Sonoco defended the move as necessitated by "recently announced paperboard price increases" that it needs to absorb.

Sonoco is the largest producer of paper-based tubes and cores in North America. As such, its price increases should be felt pretty much nationwide.
