Google Fiber Picks Up Another City: Mission, Kan.
As part of of Google's plan to build out a "Sillicon Prairie," the company has added Mission, Kan., to its list of Google Fiber cities.
On Wednesday night, Mission's city council voted to let the search giant provide its super-fast Internet network to its citizens. However, like past announcements, Google has not set a date for when it will start offering the service. First off, Google will have to build the service.
A second factor determining Google Fiber availability is a minimum number of pre-registered households. Since the company will build the service by demand, Google will cater to "fiberhoods" -- neighborhoods of 250-1,500 households that sign up for Fiber. Mission, Kan., has a population of 9,467 people and 5,477 housing units, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
