EPA Recognizes KB Home with 2013 ENERGY STAR Leadership in Housing Awards

KB Home earns a company-best seventeen awards for its commitment to building energy-efficient new homes that help protect the environment

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized KB Home (NYS: KBH) with seventeen 2013 ENERGY STAR® Leadership in Housing awards for its continued dedication to building new homes that help protect the environment through superior energy efficiency, which can lower the total cost of homeownership for KB homebuyers. The awards recognize KB Home's construction of ENERGY STAR certified new homes in all of its divisions across 33 major markets coast-to-coast.

"We remain committed to building 100% of our new homes to the ENERGY STAR certification standards because of the value the program delivers to our homeowners in the form of lower utility bills, a more comfortable home and peace of mind that their home has less impact on the environment," said Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief executive officer of KB Home. "We are proud that the EPA has recognized us once again for our dedication in this area and look forward to continuing to innovate and improve our new homes for thousands of homebuyers in the years to come."

In 2012, KB Home constructed more than 6,200 ENERGY STAR certified new homes and installed more than 9,000 ENERGY STAR appliances in those homes. This brings KB Home's cumulative number of ENERGY STAR homes built to more than 75,000 since joining the program in 2000. The U.S. EPA estimates that, in one year, families living in those more than 75,000 ENERGY STAR certified homes will save more than a total of $33 million on their utility bills while preventing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 37,000 vehicles.

"ENERGY STAR builder partners offer new homes that are designed and built to standards well above most others on the market today," said Jonathan Passe, Director of EPA's ENERGY STAR Residential Branch. "Because ENERGY STAR certified homes undergo rigorous independent inspections and testing, homebuyers who choose ENERGY STAR can be confident that their new home will offer real energy efficiency, comfort, durability, and value for years to come."
