OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Otterbein University senior Dominic Porretta has won the 2013 TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award. Porretta and Campbell University's Michael Felton went back-and-forth for the top spot, with Porretta edging Felton by 0.2 percent of the total vote.
The second-annual TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award recognizes college baseball players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. Over the course of three weeks, 15 finalists competed online for fan votes via Facebook. As the winner, Porretta will be honored at the 2013 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby, airing Thursday, July 4 at 8 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
A Journalism major, Porretta lettered all four years for the Cardinals and capped his career with a selection to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team and is now headed to nearby Ohio State University to pursue a master's degree in Business Administration. In high school, Porretta formed a special bond with an autistic classmate, Ryan Trubee. Their continued friendship has spurred Porretta to venture into many community service initiatives, including: The Alternative Center, Autism Society of Ohio, The Miracle League, and many others. He was also the president of Otterbein's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and graduated Summa Cum Laude, all while being a team captain and one of its top pitchers.
