1 Thing Alaskans Want Sooner Rather Than Later

When speaking during the recent EIA Energy Conference 2013, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski spoke very freely about the state's desire to develop its liquefied natural gas export capabilities in an environmentally conscious way. As of right now, this includes the completion of an 800-mile pipeline by TransCanada which will connect to an export terminal to be constructed by a combination of energy industry heavyweights, including ExxonMobil .

This undertaking won't come cheaply, however. Estimates range from $45 billion-$65 billion, and the companies are currently spending around $3 million each month on preliminary research and surveying alone. Due to the steady decline of oil production in the state, many Alaskans hope that this hefty sum pales in comparison to the revenue that the project will pump into the state's coffers.

Production might be falling in Alaska, but it certainly isn't in the United States as a whole. Despite this, OPEC still has considerable influence over the price of oil, and many of its members want to keep the price of oil near or above $100 per barrel.
