Google Launches "Person Finder" to Help in Wake of India Floods
The Google Crisis Response Team in India has created a "Person Finder" tool to help find flood victims.
Since last week's severe floods in Uttarakhand, India, the region has been inaccessible with intermittent communication. In an effort to help find those missing and affected by the flood, Google has launched Person Finder, a Web tool where people can post and search for friends and relatives. The tool is available in Hindi and English.
Google says it has also designed a software kit to make it easy for press and non-governmental agencies to contribute to the database. This isn't the first time Google Crisis Response Team has launched a tool for flood victims. In January, the company let anyone use its FreeZone service, letting feature phone users share and search without data charges, for free.
