University Selected for NAEP Award for the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement

CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SciQuest (NAS: SQI) , a leading provider of cloud-based business automation solutions for spend management, today announced that the University of Maine System, a SciQuest customer since 2010, has been recognized with the prestigious National Association of Education Procurement (NAEP) 2013 Award for Excellence in Procurement. The University of Maine System joins a long, distinguished list of SciQuest customers honored by the NAEP. The award is given to collegiate organizations nationwide that best demonstrate their ability to support their school's mission through the application of purchasing best practices.

The University of Maine System, the state's largest educational enterprise with seven universities, received the award for building a restructured procurement organization that allows the organization to reduce costs, increase institutional productivity, collaborate with other state institutions of higher learning, and invest the realized savings into improved student learning.

"Winning this award is an honor, and we're thrilled to receive this positive feedback from our peers within the industry," said Kevin Carr, Director, Office of Strategic Procurement at the University of Maine System. "The achievements recognized by this award represent the tremendous effort and collaboration of dedicated staff across the institution. Together, and building upon the foundation provided by SciQuest's business automation solutions, we've been able to cut costs, simplify processes and gain unprecedented transparency into our spending data. This has not only saved money for the University, but more importantly allowed us to focus on the University's core mission of education, research, and public service instead of being burdened by cumbersome, time-consuming manual processes."

NAEP Award winners are selected based on several criteria, including: scope and complexity of the endeavor; technological planning and leadership; benefit to the institution and key constituents; and demonstration of excellence and professionalism. Previous SciQuest customers who have won the NAEP Award for Excellence in Procurement include the University of California, San Diego (2011), Emory University (2010), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2009), the University of Missouri (2009), Virginia Polytechnic Institute (2008) and the University of Pennsylvania (2007).

"We've been fortunate enough to work with some of the most forward-thinking educational institutions in the country, helping them turn spending into a source of strategic savings by giving them the tools to gain control over and optimize the efficiency of spending processes," said John Fabris, vice president of sales, higher education at SciQuest. "The University of Maine System has demonstrated a commitment to managing and extracting value from their spending processes. This recognition is certainly well-deserved."
