MoneyGram 'Ultimate Cricket Fan' Arrives in U.K. for ICC Champions Trophy

Contest winner to blog and Tweet about tournament experience

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cricket fan Awais Sohrab of Ontario, Canada, winner of MoneyGram's (NAS: MGI) "Ultimate Cricket Fan" blogger contest, arrived in the United Kingdom today for his all-expense-paid trip to the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Champions Trophy semi-finals and finals. The matches are being held June 19-23.

While on his trip, Sohrab will be closer to his favorite sport via exploring the culture of the region, interacting with fans, touring the Oval and Edgbaston cricket grounds, and blogging and Tweeting about his experiences for thousands of MoneyGram cricket fans.

"I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be here for the Champions Trophy tournament, but also to visit the United Kingdom and witness this country's rich cricket history," said Sohrab, a student pursuing a criminal justice degree at Humber College in Toronto. "I'm incredibly excited to serve as MoneyGram's cricket ambassador and connect with the other fans who follow this amazing sport."

As part of its sponsorship of the ICC, MoneyGram, a leading global money transfer provider, sent Sohrab to the U.K. to blog and Tweet about the Champions Trophy matches for more than 250,000 cricket fans who follow MoneyGram's cricket-themed Facebook page and Twitter handle @MGCricket. The "Ultimate Cricket Fan" also will engage audiences before and after the matches through social media and participation in activities planned by MoneyGram, including tours of the Oval and Edgbaston cricket grounds.

"Awais demonstrated his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport, and it was clear he would make an excellent ambassador for MoneyGram and the game of cricket," said Juan Agualimpia, executive vice president, chief marketing officer, MoneyGram. "We are looking forward to a fantastic ICC Champions Trophy tournament, and we hope fans around the world will follow Awais' experience with us."

Sohrab beat out more than 350 contestants from 11 countries to earn the designation as MoneyGram's cricket ambassador and the "Ultimate Cricket Fan" because of his humorous video submission depicting his dedication to watching the sport he loves.

"After entering the competition last year, I was thrilled to see MoneyGram was giving fans another chance to attend one of cricket's great tournaments here in the U.K.," said Sohrab, who also will receive a tablet computer, a $500 stipend and t-shirts from MoneyGram. "It's a dream come true to be selected for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I'm looking forward to watching some of the best cricketers in the world."
