HCA Makes Computerworld's List of 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology for Fifth Consecutive Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HCA (NYS: HCA) today announced that for a fifth consecutive year the company has earned national recognition as one of the best workplaces for information technology professionals. The company ranked No. 42 on Computerworld's 2013 "Best Places to Work in Information Technology" list of 100 companies.

"We are proud to be listed among Computerworld's '100 Best Places to Work in IT' for the fifth year in a row," said Marty Paslick, HCA's Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. "This distinction is recognition that HCA is a great place to work, not only for nearly 4,000 IT professionals, but for all 204,000 HCA employees across the country."

HCA has several employee-focused programs that help make the company an attractive place to work. The company promotes employee health by providing a number of educational programs and incentives for participating in several wellness programs. In 2005, the company established the HCA Hope Fund, an employee-run, employee-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial relief to thousands of HCA employees every year. In addition, HCA offers many professional development opportunities for its employees. More than 2,000 courses are offered across a variety of learning platforms to support professional development.

HCA's Information Technology & Services department (IT&S) employs nearly 4,000 employees across the U.S., operates four data centers and fourteen division support centers responsible for delivering IT services to HCA and its subsidiaries such as Parallon and Sarah Cannon Research Institute, as well as other customers around the country. The department's array of services includes business analysis, systems development, systems integration, information security, customer support, training and education, and infrastructure support.

IT&S offers a diversified development program and a number of recognition opportunities that exemplify the high priority given to providing employees the resources and support to realize professional and personal ambitions in their own unique ways. However, probably the most emotionally charged offering in its curriculum is the IT Healthcare Connection program, which immerses IT&S employees into the hospital environment to help them further understand and appreciate the effect of their work. Computerworld's Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals by IDG's Computerworld. The list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
