Baker to Provide Hazard Mitigation Planning Services for the World Trade Center Site

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Michael Baker Engineering, Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), has been chosen by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as a subconsultant to Jaros, Baum & Bolles (JBB), Inc., to provide hazard mitigation planning services for the World Trade Center site in New York City. The $223,000 contract will conclude in summer of 2013.

The project is intended to protect all completed World Trade Center facilities from water inundation under severe exposure conditions such as storm surge and flooding. This plan is based on a complete flood risk assessment and analysis, including thorough evaluations of site-wide and project-specific vulnerabilities, flood mitigation strategies and improvement alternatives.

"The World Trade Center site has water intrusion vulnerabilities from storm events," said Baker's Ken Zaklukiewicz, project manager. "Once completed, everyone within the site, including all property owners and businesses, will benefit from the plan's mitigation strategies and recommendations. Our team's flood risk experts have extensive experience in managing flood risk through floodplain mapping, structural and nonstructural flood mitigation techniques, and protecting infrastructure."
