LA Metro Selects RBF for I-605 Congestion Hot Spots Project Study Reports

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- RBF Consulting (RBF), a Company of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), has been awarded an extension to an existing contract from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) for continued services on the I-605 Congestion Hot Spots Analysis Project to improve traffic in the region. The modification extends the agreement 15 months and is valued at $3.1 million.

The extended contract's scope entails preparation of two Project Study Reports (PSRs) for freeways in the various Study Area sub-corridors, which builds upon the feasibility analysis prepared by RBF for LA Metro. The PSRs for these project areas will be used to define the proposed freeway improvements and will further identify the location of improvements to be implemented in phases. The PSR is a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) project initiation document (PID) that will provide an opportunity for Caltrans, Gateway Cities Council of Governments (GCCOG), local communities, and LA Metro to achieve consensus on the purpose and need, scope and schedule for the project. RBF will continue to work with 13 cities, County of Los Angeles, LA Metro, GCCOG, and Caltrans to develop a blueprint for improvements to alleviate traffic on over 40 miles of freeways, 5 freeway system-to-system interchanges, 35 arterial interchanges, and 30 highway intersections with a combined construction value of over $2 billion.

James McDonald, West Region Transportation Market manager commented, "The foundation laid by RBF's successful work with LA Metro on the high-profile feasibility study provides a unique opportunity to continue planning, designing, and helping to implement improvements for a very important segment of Southern California's transportation network."

The contract is funded by Measure R, a 30-year, half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, and administered by LA Metro. The Measure R funding allocation for highway improvements within the Gateway Cities Area includes $590 million for the I-605/SR-91/I-405 freeway corridors.
