Wal-Mart Focuses on Fresh Produce

Updated

Wal-Mart has begun implementing new ways to offer guaranteed fresh produce to customers. The changes announced today include improvements to training, product sourcing, and operations.

The retailer says it intends to execute weekly quality checks throughout its 3,400+ Express Stores, Neighborhood Markets, and Supercenters that sell produce. Additionally, the company will expedite delivery by purchasing produce directly from its growers, and also plans to launch training programs for 70,000 of its employees, including managers, that instruct employees on how to handle fruits and vegetables and identify "top produce."

Wal-Mart is also rolling out a money-back guarantee. "We're listening to our customers and delivering on our promise to offer great produce at the most affordable price," Jack Sinclair, executive vice president of Wal-Mart's food business, is quoted as saying. "We are so sure our customers will be pleased with the fruits and vegetables they buy in our stores, they can receive a full refund if they aren't completely happy."
