HGTV Dream Home 2014 to Be Built near Lake Tahoe, Calif.
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Plans for the HGTV® Dream Home 2014 are well underway in Truckee, Calif., just minutes from the popular year-round recreational destination of Lake Tahoe. The HGTV Dream Home 2014 (#HGTVDreamHome), a custom-built, fully furnished home set in the Schaffer's Mill community, will boast breathtaking panoramic views of the Carson Range that separates California and Nevada.
The 18th annual HGTV Dream Home is part of a grand prize package that will be awarded in March 2014. The official HGTV Dream Home Giveaway entry period will open in December 2013. Until then, information about the home's location and features will be available as it emerges at HGTV.com/dreamhome.
The 3,200-square foot home, under construction by Tanamera Construction, encompasses three bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths on one-third of an acre. Its "New Mountain Architecture" design by Ward-Young Architecture blends traditional and contemporary forms. The house is designed with two wings: a living wing and bedroom wing with large expanses of glass and sliding door systems to create a transparent and direct connection between indoors and outdoors.
"The basic form is pretty simple," said Jack Thomasson, HGTV professional house planner. "We wanted to develop a more ordered sensibility saving the best aspects of traditional mountain architecture. I think HGTV Dream Home fans will be pleased with the final product."
Sitting directly on Schaffer's Mill Club golf course, the home will feature wood and steel trusses that create rhythm and order. Other elements of the home, such as windows, fireplaces and furniture add to the same rustic and natural feel. The exterior will be just as beautiful, nestled among "new growth" evergreen trees that are more than 100 years old.
