For companies that have oil sands assets, it hasn't been a good year so far. Marathon Oil just announced that the company couldn't get any takers for a 25% interest in its oil sands project. Not that it keeps Marathon from trying again, but it will be difficult. In the past year, three major oil sands exploration companies have either shelved expansion projects or have completely pulled out of the region.
