Users now have the option to run Windows 8 on an Xplore rugged tablet

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Xplore Technologies Corp. (NAS: XPLR) , manufacturer of the most powerful, longest-lasting and rugged tablet in the market, announced that its iX104C5 rugged tablet line is now compatible with Windows 8. The iX104C5 product line comes standard with Windows 7, and can now be upgraded to Windows 8 to suit the needs of mobile workers in demanding environments, such as oil and gas, military, government, utilities, manufacturing, distribution and healthcare industries.

The ability to upgrade the tablet's operating system makes the iX104C5 an attractive option to enterprises and small to medium businesses (SMBs) looking to run Windows 8 in their daily operations and allows them to use the most modernized rugged computing experience in the most extreme conditions.

"The new OS boasts a contemporary design, upgraded features and apps and offers rugged tablet users an enhanced computing experience," said Mark Holleran, president and chief operating officer of Xplore Technologies. "Providing customers the ability to deploy their Xplore rugged tablet with Windows 8 highlights our commitment to meet the mobile and rugged needs of our customers."

By adding Windows 8 compatibility, users can seamlessly run Office 2013 and other applications best suited for the newest format. Customers can update existing iX104C5 units by downloading the latest drivers on www.xploretech.com/support or can order units pre-installed at the factory.

The iX104C5 Product Line

The iX104C5 rugged tablet can withstand complete submergence in 36 inches of water for up to 30 minutes, withstand blowing dust and sand at 30 mph for 30 minutes and withstand a seven-foot drop while remaining operational. The tablets exceed MIL-STD 810G specifications, come with IP65 or IP67 protection and can operate in hazardous environments (Class 1, Division 2 zones).

Xplore Technologies introduced the first rugged tablet to the market with an Intel® Core™ i7 processor, allowing mobile workers to deploy high-end enterprise level applications with confidence and reliability. For less intensive applications, Xplore offers the iX104C5 Dual-Mode Lite tablet with an Intel® Celeron U3405 processor.

The iX104C5 product line is completely upgradeable and field replaceable, which minimizes downtime and improves efficiency in the field. In addition, the iX104C5 rugged tablets run on a solid state drive and are the industry's only rugged tablet that is equipped with RAID Array that enables faster speeds and data redundancy.
