Oil States International, Inc. Standardizes on Aruba Networks for Wireless LAN Infrastructure
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aruba Networks, Inc. (NAS: ARUN) , a leading provider of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise, today announced that Oil States International, Inc., a global oilfield services company, is standardizing on Aruba wireless infrastructure. Working with national technology solutions partner, iT1 of Scottsdale, Arizona, the organization has already deployed Aruba solutions in several of its locations around the world.
Deploying a robust wireless infrastructure became a priority for Oil States when the organization's rapid growth, primarily by acquisition, resulted in increasing demands on the IT department. The IT team was faced with connecting and supporting a jumble of different wireless equipment in the newly-acquired locations - all with their own authentication and security mechanisms. In addition, the requirements for wireless expanded from basic employee and guest access to more complex applications such as connecting barcode readers that monitor inventory. The lack of standardization and centralized management meant more connectivity problems for users, an increase in calls to the helpdesk and more headaches for the IT team.
Oil States decided to standardize on one vendor's wireless infrastructure with the goal of delivering secure, high-performing wireless connectivity to users, while centralizing the management of all its locations worldwide. After evaluating wireless solutions from both Cisco and Aruba, Oil States chose to deploy Aruba's Mobility Controllers, a mix of both indoor and outdoor access points including Aruba AP-105s, AP-120s, AP-60s and AP-175s, and Aruba Remote Access Points (RAPs) to quickly and cost-effectively connect new branch offices.
According to Doug Mullane, network manager for Oil States, the company selected Aruba for its superior security features, ease of management and low cost, as well as its ability to address the company's future mobility needs.
"It was a tough decision because I'm a Cisco guy," said Mullane. "But Aruba's solution is so robust and the management system is much more intuitive. For a small IT team like ours, the ability to centralize and quickly troubleshoot problems is critical. With our Aruba deployment, we've seen an 80% reduction in wireless support request calls."
In addition, Mullane said that being able to connect Oil States' numerous branch offices with the Aruba RAPs was a significant factor in their decision to select Aruba.
Aruba's centralized management capabilities were key to enabling the kind of mobility Oil States wanted to give to their employees. With the Aruba infrastructure in place, employees are now automatically connected to the wireless network as soon as they open their laptop or turn on their device in any Oil States location.
