Branchburg's Joanna Kostin Receives James LaFrankie Scholarship Award

Somerville High School Senior is One of Nine Students Nationwide Honored for Scholastic Achievement


VOORHEES, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Joanna Kostin of Branchburg has been selected as one of nine recipients of 22nd annual James V. LaFrankie Scholarship Awards. The $1,000 awards were distributed nationwide to nine college-bound children of full-time American Water employees. A senior at Somerville High School, Kostin was selected based on her outstanding high school records, academic honors, participation in extracurricular activities and teacher recommendations. She is graduating next month from Somerville High School with a 3.9 GPA, and will be attending New York University, majoring in biology. Kostin is a member of the National Honor Society, and was chosen as the Somerville High School NJSIAA Scholar/Athlete of the year. She is the daughter of Oleg Kostin, production manager at New Jersey American Water's Raritan Millstone Water Treatment Plant in Bridgewater.

The American Water Board of Directors established the scholarship program in 1991 in honor of former American Water president, James LaFrankie.
