AVX Misses Where it Counts
AVX (NYS: AVX) reported earnings on May 23. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q4), AVX beat expectations on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.

EPS came in at $0.15. The three earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.17 per share. GAAP EPS were $0.15 for Q4 versus -$0.08 per share for the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 17.6%, 390 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 9.6%, 420 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 6.8%, much better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $369.9 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.17.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $1.51 billion. The average EPS estimate is $0.71.
