WiLAN Settles With Dell and Enters Licensing Agreement

Often accused of being a patent troll, non-performing entity WiLAN wrangled a settlement out of Dell with details of the deal remaining confidential.

WiLAN had filed the lawsuit in September 2011 in U.S. District Court in Texas against Dell and several other companies alleging infringement over key Wi-Fi and CDMA patents, including Apple and Hewlett-Packard. As a result of the settlement and agreement, Dell obtained a license to a subset of wireless patents for certain wireless products from WiLAN and the litigation between the two companies will be dismissed.

WiLAN has licensed its intellectual property to more than 265 companies worldwide, and it has a large and growing portfolio of more than 3,000 issued or pending patents.
