Boeing Updates Order Book: 747 Tally Still Negative

Updated

Boeing released its latest report on airplane orders received -- and canceled -- through May 21 on Thursday.

To date, the aerospace giant has booked 424 "gross" orders for various flavors of its 737 regional airliner, three 747s, 29 777s, and 42 of its troubled 787 Dreamliners.

From this total, Boeing subtracted 57 737s, five 747s, and eight 777s for customer cancellations, resulting in a net of 428 commercial airplanes ordered year to date. That's more than twice the planes Boeing had received orders from as recently as last month. However, the lost 747 orders may still sting. As of today, this is the only plane category for which Boeing has a negative net order total for the year -- negative two.

Boeing shares climbed 1.9% in response to the news Thursday, closing at $99.75.
