WASHINGTON & NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large U.S. employers, today honored Healthways, Inc. (NAS: HWAY) for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging their workers and families to pursue and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Healthways received the 2013 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® Platinum Award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health's Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-Being. Healthways was recognized for its Be Well employee engagement program. This marks the second consecutive year Healthways has received the Platinum Award, after receiving Gold Award recognition for three consecutive years. Platinum Award recipients are honored for established healthy weight, healthy lifestyles programs with measurable success and documented outcomes.

"Personal empowerment and accountability for healthy behavior changes are at the heart of not only the Be Well program, but what Healthways stands for as an organization," said Ross Scott, Healthways Chief Human Capital Officer. "The effectiveness of Be Well in maintaining a sustainable culture of well-being throughout the Healthways organization has been validated through overwhelmingly positive outcomes data, leading to the improved well-being of our colleagues and reduced healthcare costs for the company."

Healthways launched Move to Health, now called Be Well, in 2008 to provide colleagues access to a comprehensive array of resources designed to impact their physical, social, emotional and financial well-being. Be Well motivates colleagues and families to take charge of their health and improve their quality of life through personalized programs and preventive tools, including a well-being assessment, biometric screenings, one-on-one health coaching for risks and chronic conditions, weight management and tobacco cessation programs, and free access to fitness centers nationwide.

Helen Darling, President and CEO of the National Business Group on Health, commented, "We are proud to honor Healthways for its ongoing commitment to providing lifestyle improvement programs that encourage healthy lifestyles for their employees. Healthways is among an elite group of organizations that are leading the way to promoting healthy workplaces and lifestyles.
