Chase Enhances the United MileagePlus Explorer Card with No Foreign Transaction Fees

Cardmembers Now Save on International Purchases in Addition to Receiving Special Travel Perks at the Airport and Beyond

WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co., announced that effective June 1, all purchases made with the United MileagePlus® Explorer Card outside of the U.S. will no longer be subject to foreign transaction fees. This enhancement comes at the perfect time, as cardmembers embark on the summer travel season and will now be able to use their card internationally without incurring foreign transaction fees.

For example, a cardmember spending $3,000 while traveling outside of the U.S. would save $90. This enhancement adds to the other unique benefits, such as a free checked bag, priority boarding and two United Club® passes per year, that MileagePlus Explorer cardmembers already enjoy.

"United MileagePlus Explorer cardmembers travel to a variety of destinations around the world," said David Gold, general manager, Chase Card Services. "The MileagePlus Explorer Card offers a host of benefits designed to make traveling the globe much more enjoyable. With the enhancement of no foreign transaction fees, we can now provide cardmembers tangible savings when traveling outside the U.S."

The United MileagePlus Explorer Card offers extensive travel benefits, including:

  • First checked bag free - Cardmembers and up to one traveling companion will receive their first checked bag free on United operated flights when they purchase their ticket with their card- worth up to $100 per roundtrip. Service charges for additional/oversized/overweight bags will apply.

  • Priority boarding - Cardmembers board prior to general boarding, so they have earlier access to overhead space and can relax as the rest of the plane boards.

  • Miles bonus - 10,000 additional bonus miles after spending $25,000 or more on the Card each calendar year.

  • United airport club passes - Each year, cardmembers will receive two United Club passes - a $100 value.

  • Premier Upgrades on Award Tickets -Cardmembers who are MileagePlus Premier® members and are traveling on award tickets can take advantage of complimentary Premier Upgrades on United-operated flights (when available).

  • Use MileagePlus miles for any seat, any time, on any United flight - If seats are available for sale on United-operated flights, cardmembers can use miles to book a ticket at the Standard Award level.

  • Double miles on United tickets - Cardmembers earn two award miles per $1 spent on tickets purchased with the card from United and 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases.

  • Miles do not expire - United MileagePlus Explorer cardmembers' miles will not expire as long as they remain a cardmember.

The United MileagePlus Explorer Card also offers benefits that extend through the entire travel experience, including access to The Luxury Hotel and Resorts Collection from Chase, which offers special cardmember-only amenities at over 700 properties in the U.S. and around the world. Beyond these special travel privileges, the MileagePlus Explorer Card also offers enhanced travel and purchase protection coverage and a suite of benefits that cater to the lifestyle needs of the affluent customer. This includes a dedicated concierge service available 24/7 to help with such things as simple gift ideas to restaurant and local entertainment recommendations anywhere in the world.

In addition, MileagePlus Explorer Cardmembers have the opportunity to attend private, once-in-a-lifetime experiences through Inside Access from Chase. Cardmembers enjoy exclusive access to the best in concerts, Broadway performances and culinary events; the opportunity to meet and mingle with industry notables; and even get rare, behind-the-scenes views into the world of professional sports and high fashion.

New MileagePlus Explorer cardmembers will earn 30,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 within the first three months of account opening. The $95 annual fee for the Explorer Card is waived for the first year on a promotional basis.

In addition to the Explorer Card, MileagePlus Club and Presidential Plus cardmembers also do not pay foreign transaction fees.
