DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Colorado Technical University (CTU), a leading provider of education for career-motivated students, has announced that Margaret Spellings, the former U.S. Secretary of Education, will be the commencement speaker at the University's graduation ceremony in Denver on Saturday, June 15.

"Margaret Spelling's presence adds to an already special 2013 graduation ceremony, where we will recognize our Wounded Warriors and our largest-ever assembly of CTU graduates," said Dr. Tim Gramling, president of CTU-Colorado. "CTU students have the option of attending online, hybrid or ground campus classes. This graduation ceremony demonstrates that we are one university and allows us to celebrate this achievement together."

As the former U.S. Secretary of Education and domestic policy advisor to President George W. Bush, Spellings is one of the nation's leading experts on the competitiveness of the nation's workforce. From the rise of educated workers in emerging markets and the aging of populations around the world to the influx of skilled labor, she brings in-depth knowledge and insight into the forces that will shape the future of American industry.

"Earning a higher education degree is a momentous occasion and is especially important for CTU students, where many of the graduates are already working professionals contributing to America's workforce," said Spellings. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to engage with the graduates, their friends and family."

The 2013 CTU Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Bellco Theatre in the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. More than 600 students are expected to participate, bringing together students from four separate campuses (Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Denver South (Aurora) and Denver North (Westminster) and online students.

Four of the graduates will receive their degrees as a result of the CTU Wounded Warrior scholarship program, which provides 50 full scholarships each year to wounded service members and veterans, and their spouses. Since 2008, CTU has provided more than 250 scholarships worth nearly $5 million. CTU is one of the few universities to offer these types of scholarships.
