Monster Meter April 2013: Life Changes Likely Result in Career Changes

MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In a U.S. poll by Monster.com, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYS: MWW) , more than 80% of respondents revealed that they would rethink their career after a big change in their life, such as new child, marriage, graduation, etc.

"Early summer often brings major life changes: weddings, graduations and moves. Along with these personal events can come career changes. Maybe you're looking for your first job after graduation? Perhaps you're moving cross-country for your new spouse and need to find work in your adopted home?" said Mary Ellen Slayter, Career Advice Expert for Monster.com. "If you are at a crossroads, pay attention to what you know about yourself and look for guidance and advice from your circle of contacts. If you are lucky enough to have the freedom to choose a career path, use that self-knowledge to select your direction wisely, and remember what you learned along the way."

In April, Monster asked the following question to U.S. visitors on its site, "Do you think an important life change or event (e.g., marriage, new baby, graduation, loss of job, etc.) would make you rethink your current or most recent line of work/career?" The poll, which received over 2,100 responses, resulted in the following findings:

  • Definitely would - 59%

  • Probably would - 27%

  • Probably would not - 8%

  • Definitely would not - 6%

The results of the current Monster Poll are based on votes cast by visitors on the U.S. Monster homepage and social media channels from: April 15-29, 2013. The Monster Meter is an ongoing series of online polls that gauge users' opinions on a variety of topics relating to careers, the economy and the workplace. This poll is not scientific and reflects the opinions of only those Internet users who have chosen to participate.
