ITT Exelis awarded follow-on U.S. Army contract option for production of enhanced night vision goggles

ROANOKE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The U.S. Army has awarded ITT Exelis (NYS: XLS) a $48 million contract option for follow-on production of enhanced night vision goggles that allow soldiers to detect and identify potential threats in various environmental conditions during nighttime missions. Exelis expects to complete deliveries to the Army in 2014.

This is the second of two production year contract options for Exelis' Spiral Enhanced Night Vision Goggle (SENVG), designated AN/PSQ-20A. The SENVG features the company's latest sensor-fused night vision technology that combines infrared imagery and image intensification into one compact goggle. SENVG provides soldiers with a significant operational capability that allows them to "truly own the night", regardless of environmental conditions or obscuration.

"This award confirms our leadership position in the field of night vision technology," said Nick Bobay, president of Exelis Night Vision & Tactical Communications Systems. "We understand the importance of the enhanced night vision program, and we are committed to delivering state-of-the-art technology to the U.S. Army so soldiers can achieve mission success in any environment."

Exelis competed and qualified the SENVG during the Army's rigorous qualification phase of the contract and received the first of two production year contract options in April 2012.

The SENVG is a production-ready, reliable and durable goggle that combines the strengths of thermal infrared imagery and image intensification. The SENVG is designed to accommodate enhancements for future network integration and lays the foundation for a digital future.
