ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Dell today announced the latest addition to its Cloud Client Computing portfolio, Dell Wyse ThinOS 8 firmware and the Dell Wyse D10D thin client. Built on Dell Wyse's heritage as a leading provider of thin clients and popular purpose-built thin client operating system, Dell creates secure, manageable, and high-performing end-to-end desktop virtualization solutions for organizations using software from Citrix, Microsoft, VMware and Dell.

The go-to source for secure virtual desktop solutions, Dell Wyse designed ThinOS 8 firmware as well as the D10D thin client to respond right out of the box to the increasing enterprise security threats. Millions of people use ThinOS-based devices every day, benefiting from its zero attack surface, so IT managers don't have to worry about vulnerabilities that plague other client operating systems. Virus-immune ThinOS 8 eliminates the need for security patches or expensive local software to safeguard against evolving security threats.

Dell Wyse ThinOS 8

Proprietary to Dell, ThinOS 8 does not have any published API's or a local file system. It also includes AES disk encryption and extensive EAP 802.X security protocol support to effectively mitigate risk. As a purpose-built solution for thin clients, Dell Wyse ThinOS 8 surpasses general purpose operating systems that are much more easily exploited and require expensive and complicated security measures as security threats evolve.

Dell Wyse ThinOS 8 is enterprise-ready with capabilities to support common security needs, including smartcard, proximity card, single sign-on, 802.1X, and extensive EAP security. If any ThinOS 8 device ends up in the wrong hands or is victim to attack, there is no chance of corporate data being compromised or files being lost. A seamless solution, customers are able to enjoy automated setup, configuration, imaging and management, without any additional IT support. Thanks to its native security and manageability advantages, ThinOS 8 lowers the total cost of ownership of endpoint devices helping organizations optimize their IT investments.

ThinOS-based thin clients are automatically self-managed, and as the number of ThinOS-based thin clients scales within an organization, they can be managed with on-premise software such as Dell Wyse Device Manager, or cloud managed by Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager (CCM). Since CCM is delivered as software-as-a-service, it enables remote visibility, control and management of ThinOS devices wherever they're placed, including branch offices and work-from-home employees, without having to install on-premise software, host a file server, or modify network infrastructure as required by competitors. As a bonus, for a limited time, customers with ThinOS maintenance will receive the Starter edition of CCM at no extra cost. Find out more information about this solution here.

ThinOS 8 offers users a fluid virtual desktop experience with enterprise applications such as unified communications and support for high definition graphics, Citrix HDX 3D, and Microsoft RDP8 (RemoteFX). In addition, ThinOS 8 introduces a custom RDP 8 client to bring the latest RDP protocol features support combined with a custom Citrix Receiver 3.x implementation. ThinOS 8 is unique in its strong support of these advanced, high-fidelity virtualization protocols on a non-Windows platform designed specifically for optimal thin client security and performance.

The Dell Wyse ThinOS 8 firmware upgrade is available for several existing Dell Wyse thin client models, including V10LE, C10LE, T10, and R10L June 21st 2013 for all current maintenance subscriptions and will come standard on the Dell Wyse D10D.

Dell Wyse D10D Thin Client

The first dual-core thin client paired with ThinOS, the D10D gives customers a high performing hardware solution combined with secure firmware. Users enjoy an instant-on experience and are able to access their desktop in seconds. Adding to its responsiveness, the D10D offers cutting edge wireless options supporting full 802.11 A/B/G/N with up to 300 MBPS connection speeds eliminating delays.

With a hands-off setup, the new D10D thin clients arrive enterprise-ready, and automatically update and configure once connected to the network, enabling organizations to scale deployments quickly and without the need for additional IT resources. The D10D can be mixed and matched with other ThinOS thin clients throughout an organization.

Dell Wyse also offers simultaneous dual digital displays with dual monitor rotation, a feature invaluable for employee productivity. Taking the user experience to a new level, powerful hardware decoding in the Dell Wyse D10D supports 1080p A/V content and virtualization protocols developed by Dell Wyse allow for high-definition multimedia consumption and creation.

Even with its powerful performance, the D10D thin client upholds Dell Wyse thin clients' reputation for sustainability and light carbon footprint, consuming only 12 watts of power. The D10D has a long life-cycle benefiting the environment and increasing the overall value of the solution for the best virtual desktop experience.

The Dell Wyse D10D thin client is as powerful a solution as is it cost-effective. It is available worldwide June 21 for $399 ECP.
