StubHub Expands Into Canada With Hockey Partnership

Updated

As part of a two-year deal, eBay's StubHub is moving into Canada by partnering with Hockey Night in Canada's Play On! nationwide event. Beginning this month and running until the end of June, the marketing effort will help StubHub connect with hockey fans across Canada.

Over nine weeks, the 2013 Play On! event will feature recreational and competitive four-on-four street hockey tournaments for all ages and skill levels. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 21-city sports festival.

As part of the deal, StubHub will receive branding exposure across all 21 city events. In Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver, and the championships in Nova Scotia, StubHub will receive custom, on-site brand activations. It will also get promotion across several media platforms, including TV advertising on CBC, which airs Hockey Night in Canada.

"We are excited to announce this two-year partnership with Stub Hub," said Scott Hill, CBC national program director. "We know Canadians will be excited as they learn more about StubHub and then experience their outstanding offering."

Since starting in 2003, Play On! has grown by an average of more than 30% annually. This year, the event expects to host more than 6,000 teams across Canada.
