Exelis Wins Navy Night Vision Contract

Updated

It seems the Italians aren't the only military that likes Exelis' night vision gear.

Last month, Exelis announced that it had been contracted by an Italian defense contractor to supply "i-Aware" Tactical Mobility Night Vision Goggles for use by the Italian Army. On Tuesday, the company announced it had won a similar contract with the U.S. Navy.

According to Exelis, the Naval Surface Warfare Center -- Crane is ordering up to 4,500 Generation 3 high-performance advanced image intensifier tubes to be used in ground and aviation night vision devices already in the inventory of the United States Special Operations Command. So this is a contract to upgrade the night vision gear of Navy Seal special ops teams.

"The Exelis Gen 3 night vision technology gives operators the tactical advantage they need to safely execute critical precision nighttime missions that support the strategic interests of the U.S. and its allies," said Nick Bobay, the president and general manager of ITT Exelis Night Vision and Tactical Communications Systems.

Exelis did not say how much the contract is worth to it in terms of revenues.
