DENVER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Discover teamed with Make-A-Wish and the National Hockey League (NHL) today to grant the wish of 13-year-old Arvada, Colorado resident, Logan, who wished for a chance to spend a day with the Stanley Cup® and share it with friends and family. Logan was surprised with the Stanley Cup this morning at The Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver where he is currently being treated for Ewing's sarcoma. Joining Logan were his mother and father, Tammy and Ron and his brother, Hayden. Logan shared the Stanley Cup visit with the doctors and nurses who have tended to him while being treated as well as other cancer patients and their families.

After the hospital visit, Logan's ultimate hockey experience continued when he surprised his Arvada hockey teammates with the Stanley Cup at the Apex Center in his hometown. Logan walked the Stanley Cup out on the ice where his teammates were able to spend time with the coveted trophy and take pictures. As an additional surprise to Logan, he and his teammates were joined on the ice by Logan's favorite hockey player, Jean-Sébastien Giguère, goaltender for the Colorado Avalanche. A pizza party was held afterwards with teammates and their families.

"To me the Stanley Cup is every basement hockey tournament, where every goal is with three seconds left, He Shoots! He Scores! For me it's my hometown of Arvada, Colorado. For me it's everyone here, who has supported me so much and I am blessed to have all of that," Logan said during remarks at the Apex Center.

Today's experience was extra-special for Logan, who was able to play hockey for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer in November 2012. Logan started playing at the age of two and the layoff from his favorite game caused him to miss everything about hockey including the smell of the ice, the feeling of skating, getting ready for the game and being physical. But most of all, he missed his teammates.

Through its sponsorship of the NHL and long-term relationship with Make-A-Wish, which includes more than $17 million donated by Discover cardmembers to Make-A-Wish through Discover's Cashback Bonus® program, Discover was thrilled to coordinate with them to bring today's events to fruition.

The Stanley Cup is the oldest and most recognized trophy in professional sports. It was crafted in Sheffield, England in the late 1800s and was first presented in 1893; therefore the Cup is 120 years old. It is the only trophy in professional sports that is passed along from player to player in the summer their team wins it. The Cup travels close to 300 days per year and has logged more than 800,000 miles in travel since the 2000-2001 NHL season, including trips to Russia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Austria, Germany, Italy, England, Belarus, Ukraine, Belgium, Afghanistan, Dubai, France, the Bahamas and the Arctic Circle. It is made of silver and nickel alloy, weighs 35 pounds and stands at three feet tall.
