Bally and Mohegan Sun set a pair of world records for "World's Largest Slot Tournament" and "Most Slot Machines Running the Same Game Simultaneously" on April 27. They followed up by claiming the "Largest Virtual Race" record on May 11.

"These were great days for our property," said Mohegan Sun President and Chief Executive Officer Bobby Soper. "We were thrilled to work with Bally Technologies to provide a tremendous amount of excitement on the casino floor and drive thousands of guests to our casinos. These were exactly the type of events that get people excited to visit Mohegan Sun and help set us apart."

A total of 3,001 Mohegan Sun guests competed in the April 27 tournament to capture the records for "World's Largest Slot Tournament" and "Most Machines Running the Same Game Simultaneously." Prizes were awarded for the top 200 winners with $100,000 up for grabs and the first-place winner walking away with $50,000 cash.

Virtual Racing NASCAR, which made its Northeastern debut at Mohegan Sun, set a new record with 4,230 participants competing in the event. Roughly 588 players split a $100,000 prize pool, with each person who selected Dale Earnhardt Jr. winning $170 in free play.

"We are so excited that Virtual Racing NASCAR was a hit with players who had an amazing time racing with their favorite drivers," said NASCAR Vice President of Licensing and Consumer Products Blake Davidson. "NASCAR is one of the most popular and entertaining sports, and that atmosphere of competition fits in perfectly with the excitement on a casino floor."

Bally's EBS Virtual Racing promotional tool has already been a huge hit, creating floor-wide excitement on casino floors across America, driving coin-in, carded play, and new players' club signups. Now Virtual Racing features a NASCAR-themed car-racing event that lets players choose their favorite driver and cheer him across the finish line.

Players selected one of eight famous NASCAR drivers—Clint Bowyer, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, or Martin Truex Jr.—from the touch-screen on the iVIEW™ or iVIEW DM player-user-interface on each of Mohegan Sun's slot or video-poker machines.

With Bally's iVIEW DM and DM Tournaments, any machine with the technology installed, anywhere on the floor, can be turned into a tournament slot and then turned back to normal game-play mode immediately following the tournament. The technology enables casino operators to remove under-performing games from the floor, rather than retaining them just for tournaments.

Representatives from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS were on hand to verify the world records on both days. The events took place throughout Mohegan's three casinos across more than 5,000 games.

"These events were tremendous examples of how EBS applications can create an amazing level of anticipation and excitement across a casino floor, while helping to increase revenues for a casino operator," said Bally Technologies President and Chief Executive Officer Ramesh Srinivasan. "We are proud to have partnered with Mohegan Sun on these record-setting tournaments."

Previously, Bally Technologies and Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif. set records for the "World's Largest Slot Tournament" and "Most Slot Machines Running the Same Game Simultaneously" when 2,885 players competed in a slot tournament at the Southern California property in February 2012. The "Largest Virtual Race" record was set for the first time at Mohegan Sun.
