W. R. Berkley Corporation Expands Role of Joseph G. Shores, President of Berkley Select, to Include President of Monitor Liability Managers

GREENWICH, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- W. R. Berkley Corporation (NYSE: WRB) today announced that Joseph G. Shores, president of Berkley Select, will undertake the additional responsibility as president of Monitor Liability Managers. The appointment is effective immediately. Mr. Shores succeeds Sandra C. Nelson, who will be involved in other activities within the W. R. Berkley Corporation group of companies.

Joe Shores joined W. R. Berkley Corporation in May 2007 with the launch of Berkley Select, and will remain Berkley Select's president in addition to his new responsibilities at Monitor. Prior to joining W. R. Berkley Corporation, Mr. Shores was responsible for regional specialty lines underwriting operations at another leading national property and casualty insurer, including the executive management of a significant professional liability operation. He has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry with significant specialty, professional liability and excess lines experience.

Monitor's public company directors' and officers' liability business will report to Berkley Professional Liability. Under the direction of John Benedetto, president, BerkleyPro has developed into a leading provider of professional liability insurance for publicly traded and large private entities based in the U.S. and Canada since its formation in 2008.
