IPC The Hospitalist Company Physician Leaders Presenting at the Society of Hospital Medicine's 2013 Conference

Sessions focus on lowering hospital readmissions, improving patient care, sharing best practices and building management capabilities

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (NAS: IPCM) , a leading national physician group practice company, today announced that five of its hospitalist physician leaders will be presenting four sessions at the Society of Hospital Medicine's (SHM) 2013 Hospital Medicine conference, held May 16-19, 2013 in National Harbor, Maryland. The conference is the largest national conference focused exclusively on hospital medicine.


"IPC physician leaders will be presenting each day of the Hospital Medicine conference," said Kerry Weiner, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of IPC. "These sessions provide hospitalists the opportunity to develop core leadership skills that will prove essential to bettering hospital performance and further aligning hospitalists with the goals of their facilities."

Sessions include:

  • Friday, May 17 at 2:45-4:00 p.m.—Kerry Weiner, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of IPC and Larry Spratling, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Banner Baywood Medical Center will be co-hosting a breakout session focused upon "Hospitalists and Their Growing Role Outside the Hospital"

  • Saturday, May 18 at 2:50-4:50 p.m.—Judy Shumway, D.O., Practice Group Leader and Regional Medical Director for IPC's San Antonio, Texas Region, with Melinda Kantsiper, M.D., and Shalini Chandra, M.D., both with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will lead a workshop on "Innovative Scheduling and Rounding: How to Improve Continuity, Efficiency, and Quality"

  • Saturday, May 18 at 4:30-6:00 p.m.—Heather Zinzella-Cox, M.D., Practice Group Leader for IPC's Delaware Region; Thomas Mathew, M.D., IPC hospitalist; and Dan DiPietropaolo, M.D., National Medical Director of Compassionate Care Hospice will lead a workshop on "Palliative Care and You: A Triple Win for Hospitalists, Patients, and Facilities"

  • Sunday, May 19 at 10:55-11:50 a.m.—Jerome Wilborn, M.D., National Medical Director for Post-Acute Care for IPC and Jacqueline Vance, R.N.C, Director of Clinical Affairs and Industry Relations for the American Medical Directors Association will co-lead a breakout session entitled "How to Build a Successful Post-Acute Care Practice"
