50 Cent's SMS Audio commits to wireless audio quality with aptX®

Rapper's cutting-edge audio line joins the aptX ecosystem so music lovers can lose the wires without losing audio quality

CAMBRIDGE, England & SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In a move that proves American rapper and entrepreneur 50 Cent's dedication to improving the way people experience music, CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announces that SMS Audio, LLC has licensed its aptX® audio codec to ensure music lovers get to experience music delivered wirelessly via Bluetooth® at the same quality as it was created in the studio.

SMS Audio will integrate the aptX audio codec, which ensures sound quality is maintained over a Bluetooth connection, in a new range of high-end wireless speakers and headsets giving users the clearest and cleanest sound wirelessly.

The first products to be launched as part of the new range will be the SYNC by 50™ On-Ear Wireless Headphones and SYNC by 50™ portable Bluetooth speaker and will arrive in retail stores globally in late summer 2013.

"50 Cent created SMS Audio to deliver products that bring not only comfort and fashion but the highest calibre sound quality," says Brian M. Nohe, President, at SMS Audio. "We know that our customers crave high-fidelity audio and that many of them want the convenience of wireless products. aptX is proven to deliver on this, which is why we decided to collaborate with CSR. Now our customers can roam wherever the music takes them without compromising on sound quality."

By joining the ever-expanding aptX ecosystem, SMS Audio will be part of a community of 156 high-profile manufacturers including Samsung and Sony, that all use aptX across a range of audio devices including smartphones, wireless speakers and headsets, to enhance the wireless audio experience.

"SMS Audio is an exciting new audio manufacturer and we are looking forward to complementing their popular style and functionality with our technology," says Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President, Business Group at CSR.

"We are working with manufacturers on a daily basis to meet growing consumer expectations to be able to listen to their music wirelessly while maintaining audio quality. Music lovers can be assured that where they see the aptX logo, they can lose the wires without compromising on audio quality," concludes Murray.

In order to fit within the Bluetooth 'pipe' and be transmitted wirelessly, audio needs to use a bit rate reduction technique. aptX audio technology uses a non-destructive solution to ensure the audio is transmitted over Bluetooth's available bandwidth. It replicates the entire frequency of the audio, maintaining CD-quality audio over the Bluetooth connection and ensuring that users can hear everything as the artist originally intended.
