Regions Bank Announces 32 Recipients of Riding Forward Scholarships

High School Seniors and College Students Receive Funds for Education

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Regions Bank (NYS: RF) has announced the 32 winners of its 2013 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest, which provides college scholarships to high school seniors and college students.


The contest was the centerpiece of Regions' efforts to honor Black History Month throughout the 16 states it serves. Eligible high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors entered the contest by writing essays about African-Americans who have inspired them.

In each of the 16 states with Regions branches, Regions awarded a college scholarship to one high school student and to one college student. Contest winners, and their hometowns and schools, are:

  • Erin Ferguson - Nashville, Tenn. (will attend Duke University)

  • Logan Gardner - Lexington, Ky. (will attend the University of Pennsylvania)

  • Kayla Glass - Riverdale, Ga. (will attend Howard University)

  • Kristen Moore - Charlotte, N.C. (will attend the University of North Carolina at Asheville)

  • Charissa Obeng-Nyarko - Lauderhill, Fla. (will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)

  • Obasi Onuoha - O'Fallon, Mo. (will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

  • Ariel Smolik-Valles - Des Plaines, Ill. (will attend University of Missouri)

  • George Thompson - Edgefield, S.C. (will attend Harvard University)

  • Cassidy Turpin - Evansville, Ind. (will attend Louisiana State University)
