U.S. Bank Named "Best for Vets" Employer by Military Times Magazine for Fourth Consecutive Year

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Military Times magazine has named U.S. Bank as a "Best for Vets" employer, the fourth consecutive year the company has been recognized. The bank employs more than 2,000 veterans nationwide, hiring nearly 600 in 2012 alone.

"U.S. Bank is firmly committed to employing and supporting veterans, active-duty service members and their families," said Richard Davis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of U.S. Bancorp, parent company of U.S. Bank. "We are proud of the leadership roles that veterans hold in our organization, and we are actively developing programs to continue to give back to those who protect our freedoms."

U.S. Bank was one of only 53 companies nationwide named "Best for Vets." U.S. Bank ranked 25th on the list in 2013, up 14 spots from 2012. The survey includes recruiting practices, policies related to veterans, reservists and their families, and how overall corporate culture supports veterans.

Military Times alsotook into account whether companies have received recognition from the U.S. Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization. Last month the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Minnesota Committee for ESGR selected U.S. Bank as one of three Minnesota employers to receive the prestigious Pro Patria Award for its support of the Guard and Reserve. The annual ESGR awards ceremony will be held May 20.

U.S. Bank honors and supports members of the U.S. military through its Proud to Serve program. Now in its fifth year, the program focuses on hiring and supporting veterans, employees who are veterans and their families. In addition to the nearly 600 veterans hired in 2012, U.S. Bank is committed to hiring hundreds more in 2013.

The company enhanced its HR policies for veterans last year, including offering employees up to two weeks paid leave to cover time they would otherwise take off unpaid, per state or federal law, in connection with a family member's military service. Depending on state laws, the time can be taken not only with the deployment of a child, parent or spouse, but may be available to extended family as well.
