EA Inks "Star Wars" Games Deal With Disney
Walt Disney has signed a deal with Electronic Arts for the gaming company to create the next versions of its Star Wars video games.
The multiyear licensing deal between the two companies will give EA the rights to develop and publish new Star Wars games globally.
According to the press release, Disney will retain certain rights to create Star Wars games for mobile, tablets, online, and social gaming, while EA will create games for the "core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres." John Pleasants, co-president of Disney Interactive, was quoted as saying, "Collaborating with one of the world's premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world."
EA said in the statement that three of its top gaming studios -- DICE, Visceral and BioWare -- will work on the new games. "The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay," said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
