Strayer Education Beats on EPS But GAAP Results Lag

EPS came in at $1.59. The 10 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $1.46 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.59 for Q1 were 24% lower than the prior-year quarter's $2.09 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 46.6%, 410 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 21.8%, 550 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 12.5%, 350 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $133.2 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.37.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $513.7 million. The average EPS estimate is $4.11.
