Starwood Hotels & Resorts Partners with Keynote to Ensure the Quality of Strategic Mobile Initiatives
- With the mobile presence of Starwood expanding, the global online compliance team needed to ensure that the content and functionality of its mobile apps and websites met corporate brand standards
- Compliance experts used Keynote's DeviceAnywhere real device platform to access device-specific mobile apps and websites for all Starwood brands including Westin®, Le Méridien®, Sheraton® and others, saving the time and cost of purchasing or renting mobile devices
SAN MATEO, Calif. & ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- At STAREAST 2013 Keynote® (NAS: KEYN) , the global leader in Internet and mobile cloud testing & monitoring, announced that Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. ("Starwood"), the most global high-end hotel company in the world, uses Keynote's DeviceAnywhere platform to test compliance of dozens of mobile apps and websites created for all of Starwood's groups and properties, including Westin®, Le Méridien®, Sheraton® and others, with corporate branding standards. These mobile apps and websites enable customers to find hotels, learn about services, view pictures of properties and rooms, book reservations and more. The company's global online compliance team has benefitted from the ability to simply go to the Internet, use any device to access any mobile website or device-specific mobile app and review content and functionality.
"We chose Keynote because it allowed us to do exactly what we needed," said Janay McWhorter, senior manager for Starwood's global online compliance group. "Rather than requiring us to rent or purchase devices, which can be expensive and requires a lengthy approval process, DeviceAnywhere allows us to go online and choose from any number of real smartphone devices and OSs available via the Internet and begin testing immediately."
Over a one month period, Starwood testers were able to perform manual testing of their mobile apps and websites using the world's largest real device, cloud testing library - DeviceAnywhere. Testers were able to remotely interact and control every aspect of the mobile device including pressing handset buttons, viewing LCD displays, listening to ringers and tones, playing videos, tapping and swiping touch screens, muting, powering on/off, downloading apps, sending/receiving messages and anything else they could do if they held the physical device in their own hands.
As a result, testers were able to start working immediately. This allowed the group to easily review and audit every site. If one of the testers found something that didn't look right, he or she could easily select from DeviceAnywhere's long list of real devices to look at the app on a different device or version to determine whether the problem was with the app or with the way it rendered on a particular device. "DeviceAnywhere really proved its worth," said McWhorter.
"Starwood's application of the Keynote DeviceAnywhere platform is a creative example of how today's organizations are increasingly developing, testing and deploying mobile apps in addition to websites to expand their online presence," said Vik Chaudhary, vice president of product management and corporate development at Keynote. "Keynote's DeviceAnywhere platform is the perfect solution because it allows any organization to test mobile apps without the time and complexity of purchasing and managing large numbers dedicated mobile devices for the purpose of test automation."
Keynote will be showcasing its latest mobile test automation solutions at STAREAST in Orlando, Florida from April 28 - May 3, 2013, Booth #20 in the main exhibition hall.
