General Cable (NYS: BGC) reported earnings on April 30. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS details
EPS came in at $0.23. The six earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.25 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.23 for Q1 were 52% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.48 per share. GAAP EPS were -$0.94 for Q1 against $0.45 per share for the prior-year quarter.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 10.1%, much about the same as the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 2.1%, 140 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was -3.0%, 460 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.75 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.78.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $6.88 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.66.
