Avnet, Inc. Celebrated 20 Years of Community Service and Support with HandsOn Greater Phoenix

150 Avnet employees volunteer at annual Serve A Thon to help refurbish Phoenix area high school and support student pre-engineering program

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, celebrated 20 years of volunteerism and financial support with HandsOn Greater Phoenix, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that empowers people to become engaged, take action and create positive change in their communities. On Saturday, April 27, 2013, approximately 150 Avnet employees volunteered at HandsOn Greater Phoenix's annual Serve A Thon day of service event. Having partnered with HandsOn Greater Phoenix since it was established in 1993, Avnet commemorated the organization's 20-year anniversary by making a $10,000 grant. Avnet also donated a sponsorship package for HandsOn Greater Phoenix to advertise their milestone anniversary in various media outlets.

"Volunteerism is an integral part of our culture and the foundation for Avnet's community relations programs. Avnet employees are dedicated to supporting our communities and for 20 years they have been volunteering with HandsOn Greater Phoenix. Education and children's issues are strategic pillars in our efforts, and being able to focus on schools makes this partnership a perfect fit for us and our employees. Working with an organization as excellent as HandsOn for this long demonstrates the depth of commitment to a partnership that really makes a difference," said Teri Radosevich, Avnet vice president of community relations.

"Thanks and recognition go to all the Avnet employees who were involved in this year's Serve A Thon for the first time and those who have been involved year after year in this important day of service," added Radosevich.

Teams of people across the Valley participated in this year's 20th annual HandsOn Greater Phoenix Serve A Thon, completing projects at 30 different sites around the Valley. The 150 Avnet employees who participated in the Serve A Thon completed 14 different projects and helped build an urban sustainability garden at Kino Junior High School, where students will be able to grow crops and donate them to local food banks. Avnet volunteers also helped sort Legos for the school's "Gateway to Technology" science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program, which gives students the opportunity to work on pre-engineering projects, including building Lego robots.

Because of this high level of volunteerism by Avnet employees in HandsOn Greater Phoenix programs, Avnet has been able to make annual donations of approximately $8,000 a year for the past two years through one of its employee giving program called the Dollars for Doers.

"Avnet has been the centerpiece of our Serve A Thon events since the very beginning," said Rhonda Oliver, chief executive officer for HandsOn Greater Phoenix. "Avnet's volunteer groups are always the largest and most sought after groups every year. We are so grateful for all the support we have received on behalf of the Avnet team throughout these past 20 years."
