Netflix Announces Start Date for New Original Series

Updated

Hot on the heels of its much-talked-about House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and not to mention the continuation of cult show Arrested Development, Netflix will roll out a new original series in mid-summer. Orange Is the New Black will debut on July 11, and like its fellow Netflix series, a full season of the show will be made available immediately via the company's streaming video service.

Orange is a comedy-drama centered on young, well-off New Yorker Piper (Taylor Schilling), whose association with a drug runner lands her in jail. The series was created by Jenji Kohan, who also serves as its executive producer. Kohan is best known as the creator of the popular Showtime series Weeds, which finished its run last year.
