Mercer Launches "Uncover the Numbers" Retirement Education Program

  • New online campaign uses innovative web technologies and consumer-style design

  • Engage participants in the retirement planning process

NORWOOD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mercer announced today that it has launched "Uncover the Numbers" (www.uncoverthenumbers.com/mercer), an innovative online retirement planning and education campaign for employees whose 401(k) plans it administers.

Using a theme of numbers related to retirement, Uncover the Numbers offers game-like interactivity to engage individuals' natural curiosity while delivering helpful retirement planning insights. The website features an inviting, tile-based design modeled after leading social and consumer websites, offering participants a fun and familiar experience that captures attention, encourages exploration, and allows for easy sharing with colleagues, friends, and family. In addition, visitors can use the site's "SmartSort" functionality to instantly group content by career stage or investing topic.

Uncover the Numbers addresses key findings from the recent Mercer Workplace Survey™, which revealed that employees are worried about being financially ready for retirement, are considering delaying retirement in record numbers, and agree that saving for retirement is their personal responsibility. This research points to the need for accessible and relevant information to help employees become confident and successful retirement savers.

"The survey results tell us that after enduring the struggles and frustrations of a weak economy, employees want to become better prepared for their financial future," said Dave Tolve, Retirement Business leader for Mercer's US Outsourcing business. "Unfortunately, many lack the knowledge and confidence to take the appropriate steps to achieve this goal. In fact, a record 44% are considering delaying retirement, a clear sign that employees do not feel their saving strategy is on track. Uncover the Numbers was carefully designed to make retirement planning more approachable, understandable, and actionable."

Uncover the Numbers launched this month and will be a year-long campaign, with new content to be introduced in the fall. The user experience begins by clicking on one of the prominent numbers displayed on the home page. Then a short clue about the number's meaning for retirement savers is shown, which leads to a complete answer along with more related educational content, such as videos, calculators, and infographics. Visitors can also share the site through social media postings and email.

"Numbers are an important part of the retirement planning process, whether it's estimating how much you may need to save or understanding the impact of health care costs on your retirement expenses," said Suzanne Nolan, Marketing and Communications leader for Mercer's US Outsourcing business. "We wanted to create an educational program that demystifies these numbers, offers exciting technology to enhance the learning experience, and allows for instant customization by bringing the most relevant information to the forefront."

Participants can access Uncover the Numbers through their plan's website. A public version of the site is also available at www.uncoverthenumbers.com/mercer. The site's responsive design technology ensures optimal viewing on any device — smart phone, tablet, or desktop.
