MeadWestvaco (NYS: MWV) reported earnings on April 30. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), MeadWestvaco met expectations on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.

EPS came in at $0.16. The 12 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $0.24 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.16 for Q1 were 53% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.34 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.) GAAP EPS of $0.06 for Q1 were 79% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.28 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

For the quarter, gross margin was 16.0%, 520 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 3.5%, 580 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 0.8%, 290 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.50 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.50.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $5.78 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.64.
