ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (NYS: EBS) announced its participation in the Defence against Terrorism Programme of Work (DAT POW) workshop conducted by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Emerging Security Challenges Division at the Counter Terror Expo in London. Dr. Jamie Shea, Deputy Assistant Secretary General, NATO Emerging Security Challenges Division stated, "NATO is always looking to develop new, cutting-edge technologies and capabilities to protect troops and civilians. One of the aims of the DAT POW is to prevent non-conventional attacks, such as attacks with improvised explosive devices or mitigate other challenges such as attacks on critical infrastructure and CBRN. This workshop emphasized the importance of synergy between civilian and military organizations in order to be successful."

The aim of the DAT POW Workshop in London was both to allow project managers to offer an overview of their projects' deliverables, and to foster interoperability and ensure access to the latest technological developments through industry briefings and contributions. Workshop participants, including civilian and military officials representing various NATO and partner countries, discussed strategies and best practices in protecting harbors and ports, large body aircraft, countering IEDs, Explosive Ordnance Disposal and consequence management, non-lethal capabilities, ISR, Human Intelligence (HUMINT), as well as detecting, protecting against, and defeating CBRNE threats.

The Counter Terror Expo was held from April 24 to 25 in London. The Defence against Terrorism Programme of Work was developed in 2004 as a fast route to capability development and as a facilitator for Allied nations and NATO entities to take the lead in individual projects.
