New Teradata appliance for SAS®High-Performance Analytics accelerates time to insight in an integrated platform

Teradata introduces its new appliance for SAS, further revolutionizing analytics to integrate and accelerate analysis for all types of data

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Economic value is increasingly created by the subsecond conversion of raw data streams into business insight. In view of this, SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, and Teradata (NYSE: TDC) announce the availability of the Teradata Appliance for SAS® High-Performance Analytics, Model 720. Jointly designed with SAS, the unique Teradata appliance provides an integrated platform that supports newly announced SAS High-Performance Analytics offerings and SAS Visual Analytics to significantly accelerate performance and minimize data movement and duplication.

The technological power and architecture of the new platform for SAS High-Performance Analytics enable:

  • New visibility to explore and identify trends and patterns quickly, and to confidently seize emerging opportunities, manage risks and make the right choices.

  • The performance capacity to achieve answers to complex business questions in near-real time and provide new insights to analysts involved in daily operations.

  • Increased productivity from analytic staff and the power to expedite time-to-decision for competitive advantage.

The new Teradata Appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics, part of Teradata's Unified Data Architecture (UDA), enables a fully-integrated system that supports SAS High-Performance Analytics and connectivity to existing Teradata data warehouses. SAS Visual Analytics on Teradata quickly uncovers patterns and trends from massive volumes of data and presents these insights rapidly in graphical form throughout the enterprise, including via mobile devices. The unprecedented speed and integration offered by the Teradata 720 Appliance results from its seamless integration of in-memory analytics within the Teradata warehouse environment. This new configuration provides typical Teradata scalability and lightning-quick in-memory processing while maintaining a centralized data management architecture.

Users can now access and apply advanced analytics directly in Teradata. With these new capabilities, users can:

  • Expand and complement SAS High-Performance Analytics for Teradata, leveraging all of the increasingly popular Teradata tools and methodologies.

  • Promote a scalable, centralized data environment within the Teradata Unified Data Architecture (UDA) with SAS Analytics.

  • Utilize an end-to-end enterprise analytic platform to identify patterns and trends, and develop analytical models in minutes or seconds rather than days or hours.

"I find the extreme performance of the Teradata 720 for SAS exciting, and believe it opens many new opportunities for companies on the cutting edge, improving data governance and unifying data and analytics in an integrated environment," said Manuel Sevilla, Chief Technology Officer for Business Information Management at Capgemini. "In addition, the pairing of SAS and Teradata is a great value proposition for faster time-to-value while reducing the latency from the capture and provision of new data to the output of analytic intelligence."

"We believe our mutual customers will be impressed with the power and performance of the Teradata appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics, and we foresee a strong market acceptance for the platform," said Scott VanValkenburgh, SAS Senior Director of Alliances. "Now, with this appliance running new SAS High-Performance Analytics offerings and SAS Visual Analytics within the Teradata UDA environment, the system accelerates the analytical model development process from weeks to minutes - dramatically changing the way companies leverage analytics to realize opportunities."

"Data volume and variety are exploding, and today's analytic insight engines must outpace it. Business impact is the name of the game, requiring more performance and agility than ever. Organizations using SAS with Teradata are reporting significant performance improvements that enable more free time for analytic experimentation and insight into business opportunities," said Rick Lower, CA-AM, Teradata Alliance Director. "We are confident that together SAS and Teradata provide the most formidable, end-to-end integrated analytics platform and portfolio in the world."

Attesting to the value of the SAS and Teradata collaboration, John Scheibmeir and Arun Akkinapalli of eBay will present "eBay Quadruples Processing Speed with SAS In-Database Analytics for Teradata" at SAS Global Forum 2013 in San Francisco on May 1. They will explain how using SAS in-database processing on eBay's Teradata-based Singularity Platform has reduced end-to-end processing time by a factor of four at eBay, conferring approximately 30 percent more processing capacity and enabling users to evaluate more experiments.

Today's announcement was made at SAS Global Forum 2013, the world's premier analytics conference and the largest gathering of SAS users, attended by more than 4,000 business and IT users of SAS software and solutions. Key sessions will be live streamed at the SAS video portal
