New Jersey Lt. Gov. to Take First Sip at New Water Treatment Plant

WHAT:

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno will join state officials and New Jersey American Water for the ceremonial grand opening of New Jersey American Water's Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant.

Lt. Gov. Guadagno will drink the ceremonial "first glass of water" from the Canoe Brook Plant, fulfilling a wish she made at the plant's groundbreaking celebration two years ago. State officials, New Jersey American Water staff and other dignitaries will mark the occasion and take tours of the state-of-the-art water treatment plant.

WHY:

New Jersey American Water replaced its 1920s-era Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant with a new, state-of-the-art facility on the same grounds. Construction began in fall 2010 and was completed in June 2012. The approximately $72 million project created upwards of 200 construction jobs and has the capacity to deliver 14 million gallons of water per day to customers in the New Jersey American Water's Short Hills service area.
